Bailey
As I sat across this beautiful brown-eyed girl, named Bailey, I sensed her excitement for her future and the road that lies ahead of her. I heard her story about how she moved to Los Angeles on her own in August of 2015 to pursue a career in music, and all her new experiences in the city of angels, the highs and the lows. I couldn’t help but reminisce about a time years earlier when I too was fresh on the scene and chasing my dream in the entertainment industry.
Bailey is an aspiring singer, and songwriter in the Electro Pop genre, and a Texas girl originally from a small suburb of Dallas, Texas. She loves the beach but hates sharks, and her favorite and lucky number is 19. She also loves Mexican food and claims that Texas has the best Mexican food, but I’ll be the judge of that. She said she knew she wanted to be a singer from an early age when she used to sing to Ashlee Simpson and Hilary Duff in the bathroom mirror. She also released her first single on iTunes when she was in the 9th grade.
She is currently in a transitional season as she spent her first year in LA acclimating to her new surroundings, the West Coast culture, and the LA lifestyle. She recently celebrated her one-year Los Angeles anniversary in August, and now looks to hone in on her craft and passion as a singer/songwriter and focus on her career. Bailey refers to her first year in LA as a year of wisdom. “I’ve learned so much in the last year I moved to LA,“ says Bailey. I’ll be honest, I was surprised to learn that Bailey was only nineteen years old and that she moved to Los Angeles when she was only eighteen. She was far beyond her age and carried herself with such confidence and grace. When she spoke she articulated her thoughts clearly and was very insightful, which made for an interesting conversation. She must have an old soul I guess. When I asked her what it felt like when she first moved out to LA, she replied, “It was weird eating my first meal alone.” It must have been difficult for Bailey to get used to due to the fact that she comes from a big family.
Bailey goes on to recount a time in her first couple of months in LA, when she went to an event and ran into an acquaintance, whom she mistook as a friend, and was completely ignored by this person. Shortly after this sobering experience, Bailey’s intuition told her that this scene and lifestyle weren’t the right places to be. As fate would have it, that same night she headed to a local diner, where she ran into her favorite singer, Christina Perri, whom she looks up to. Bailey had briefly met Christina Perri in the past, but she said she would have been mad at herself if she did not go and talked to her that night. She mustered up the courage and approached Christina, which turned out to be a pleasant interaction. Life has a knack for showing up in clutch moments to give us exactly what we need, always unexpectedly, and never ceases to amaze us. These cosmic or supernatural forces guide us through our lives, some call it the universe, and others call it God.
Bailey says that she remains grounded by being around like-minded people and remains rooted in her faith. She is an active worship leader at Zoe Church in Los Angeles.
When asked what piece of advice she would give her younger self, she replied, “Focus on what’s important in your life.”
Before she dies she wants to go on tour for her music, but more importantly inspire others as her role models did for her.
